You know the moment: you put on something beautiful at 8 a.m., and by lunch it's gone. That's not you — it's the alcohol. Here's what's actually happening, and why an oil perfume behaves differently.
The 4 p.m. test
Alcohol is a carrier. It flings fragrance into the air the second you spray — that big opening cloud you can smell across a room — and then it evaporates, taking most of the scent with it inside the first hour. What's left fades fast. Oil doesn't flash off like that. It absorbs into skin and warms with your body, releasing scent slowly and close for the rest of the day.
Why oil holds on
Two reasons. First, no flash-off: without alcohol there's no sharp evaporating blast — just scent that stays near the skin and lasts. Second, richness: an oil perfume is fragrance suspended in a skin-friendly oil rather than diluted in alcohol and water.
